Author Events

He is, perhaps, an unusual chief executive to fill the most high-profile position in American publishing at a high-stakes time for the company. Penguin Random House’s renowned author roster includes John Grisham, Dan Brown, Barack and Michelle Obama, and Toni Morrison. Last year, 496 of the publishing group’s titles made the “New York Times” bestseller lists; more than 80 Penguin Random House authors are Nobel laureates.

Reading Matters

Penguin Random House currently comprises around275 individual publishers; a further 47 book publishing imprints belong to the Munich-based Verlagsgruppe Random House. In 2018, Bertelsmann’s book division generated total revenues of €3.4 billion and an operating profit of €528 million. In 2018, 481 Penguin Random House titles made the “New York Times” bestseller lists, 69 of them rising to number one. Finding a community of writers who are in the same stage of the publishing quest as you are can also be an important source of moral support and you navigate the likely ups and downs of the process. The easiest way to find other writers is via social media, and the hashtag #writercommunity on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok is a great place to start.

Now, with large acquisitions seemingly off the table, the company will have to grow organically, by selling books. 1928Bertelsmann launches its fiction publishing program with “narrative literature” in Protestant magazines. Hudson Street Press, specializing in narrative nonfiction, lifestyle, health/diet, women’s issues, popular history, and biography, is launched. Sentinel Books, a right-of-center imprint specializing in a wide variety of right-of-center books, is founded by publisher Adrian Zackheim. Prentice Hall Press, formerly the trade imprint of Pearson’s Prentice Hall Direct division, is moved to Penguin Group (USA). The Prentice Hall lists are comprised of business, health, and self-help/popular reference titles for career, education and business communications.

If you have a great book idea, the first step is (in most cases) to complete that manuscript or proposal. Proposals are common with nonfiction projects, and full manuscripts are often needed with fiction. In 1946 Penguin debuted its popular classics series, and a modern classics line followed in 1961. After being purchased by Pearson Longman in 1970, Penguin acquired a number of firms, notably Frederick Warne (1983), New American Library/Dutton Books (1986), and the Putnam Berkley Group (1996). Historically, most major publishers, including Penguin Random House, have not accepted unagented submissions, in large part because an agent plays a critical role in serving your interests in the business relationship you will have with a publisher. While we are working to create and expand open submission opportunities through programs like the Berkley Open Submission Program, in most cases an agent is still required and advisable.

The publishing program was gradually expanded to include philology, history, and youth literature, as well as mission literature. The Putnam Berkley Group launches Riverhead Books, a new adult hardcover and trade paperback imprint, founded by Susan Petersen Kennedy. If an editor shows interest in your project, they may ask other editorial colleagues for second reads. The process varies by imprint and publishing house, but most groups have regular acquisitions meetings in which the prospective editor presents your project to others on the publishing team. At this stage, they decide whether or not to make an offer.

Ultimately, you have the final say over whether you will accept an offer, though you will likely discuss your options with your agent. After an offer is accepted, a contract will be drafted as well as the deal terms laid out in the memo. Minor negotiations will continue after this point, so if at any point you have questions about a contract draft, you should discuss them with your agent. Miami Cruise Ship Terminal Directions and Parking

miami cruise terminal map

All vehicles must enter the port via Biscayne Blvd and the Port Bridge. Along the north side of Dodge Island are terminals A, B, C, D, E, F and G. Royal Caribbean | The Crown of MiamiIn November 2018, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. officially opened Terminal A in collaboration with Miami-Dade County.

Miami Cruise Port (Florida, USA): Guide and Review (

The new MSC Terminal can handle three large vessels simultaneously (max daily passenger capacity 36000) and is fitted with shorepower connectivity. MSC Terminal AAA (completed in October 2022) has capacity to handle MSC WORLD-Class liners (fleet's ever-largest, with passenger capacity 7000). The 2019-signed Carnival-PortMiami agreement included the company's commitment to homeport at Terminal F ships for 20 years, with the option of two additional 7-year lease extensions. Seasonal ship relocations (RepositionCruises.com) include Panama Canal transits from Florida to Alaska in late Spring.

How Much Cruise Lines Spend on Food (Less Than You Think?)

Read on for our Port of Miami breakdown, including address information, cruise line terminals, directions, services and more. Also, be sure to check out Cruise Critic's ranked cruise deals from Port of Miami and see what tips, tricks and secret advice our Cruise Critic members have to say about cruises from Port of Miami. Port Miami has 11 cruise terminals although several are currently under construction. Designed to accommodate smaller boutique vessels and more exclusive luxury cruise ships, Terminal J is operated by Oceania and Regent Seven Seas. It is one of 3 terminals dedicated to Carnival which is currently Miami’s top customer, welcoming over 2 million passengers a year. Ft. including a VIP lounge, advanced security screening, check-in counters, and conveyor baggage system.

Independent van/car services

Official Port ParkingThe Port of Miami offers parking garages and lots near all of the cruise terminals. In total there are thousands of parking spaces — you don’t need to reserve a space or worry about finding a spot. Uber/LyftIf you fly in for your cruise — or simply don’t want to deal with driving — then Uber and Lyft offer service throughout South Florida to the Miami cruise port (including the airports). Getting a ride at any time you want is as simple as opening the app and requesting a ride at your location. Estimated rates from points of interest are below and will vary based on traffic. While that means you’ll have to deal with South Florida traffic, it is a convenient way to get to your ship.

The Tunnel doesn’t have access if driving from South Beach and you will have to Exit on Biscayne Boulevard (Exit 2) and make a U-turn on N. Alternatively, just drive Downtown and follow the Port of Miami signs to cross the Port Bridge. Freedom TowerThe Freedom Tower is perhaps Miami’s most famous building.

The great news about being in a tourist hotspot like Miami is that there’s an entire industry catering to tourists and cruise passengers to help you with anything you need. That means you have an number of transportation options to get to the port. If you’re not picky, however, you can save some cash by staying at hotels nearer the airport or elsewhere around the city. These hotels don’t have the “flash” of a swanky downtown Miami or South Beach hotel, but offer a comfortable place to stay for cheaper. When you cruise, it’s usually a good idea to arrive to the port city the day before your trip.

Plans include widening the ship channel and the turning basin which will include the acquisition of land rights currently used by Seaboard Marine. Terminal G is a Miami landmark with its iconic sail-like roofline. It currently serves Royal Caribbean International (RCI) and Celebrity Cruises among others. It was completed in 2013 at a relatively moderate cost of $2 million. The 3-story facility has a VIP lounge, advanced security screening, check-in counters, and conveyor baggage system. Part of it has been incorporated into the new Terminal B construction.

PortMiami Cruise Terminal Information

Head up to the roof to get a dramatic sweeping view of the entire port area in the thoughtfully-designed open-air wildlife exhibit. In late-October 2019 was approved the agreement for Brightline Miami to be rebranded "Virgin Trains" and Virgin Group to build a train station (Virgin Trains PortMiami) at the cruise port. The new station serves high-speed trains and connects PortMiami directly with the USA's intercity railway system and Orlando International Airport. Construction works on Virgin Trains PortMiami are scheduled for completion in 2022.

From the Airport:

For those flying to South Florida to embark a cruise ship in Miami on the same day, traveling to the port is very straight forward regardless of the arrival airport - Miami or Fort Lauderdale. The Port of Miami is on a man-made island (know as Dodge Island) between Downtown Miami and South Beach. With around 5 million passengers per year, Miami is the busiest cruise port in the World. As a perk, some hotels in Miami offer parking deals while you cruise in exchange for a night’s stay.

There’s a good chance you’ll sail from Terminal J. The cruise terminal is on the southern side of the island, opposite of the rest of the cruise port traffic. Its location with no other ships around make getting to your cruise a bit less hectic than some of the busier terminals. As you would expect given the number of cruises that leave Miami, it has the capacity to dock a number of cruise ships as once. In fact, with a total of eight terminals (with several more on the way), more than a half-dozen ships can be berthed at any given time. Below we’ve listed current terminal and those under construction or soon to be built.

PortMiami is in close proximity to many desirable neighborhoods so there's no lack of opportunity to find both destination dining and good local eats. Your choice will also depend on how long you're staying, what you'd like to see while you're in town and how many hotel points you have to spend. Royal Caribbean's Terminal A Garage charges a higher rate of $35 per day. In general, you’ll find the summers are hot, oppressive, wet, and mostly cloudy while the winters are short, comfortable, humid, windy, and mostly clear.

How long does it take to get to the airport from the Port of Miami? We mentioned it above, but it takes about minutes in normal traffic to get to the Miami airport from the cruise port. Expect 45 minutes to one hour if you are headed to Fort Lauderdale. While navigating around the port can be a little confusing given the twists and turns and the number of terminals, picking up and dropping off is simple. You’ll see signs at the terminal directing you to the spot where you can let out passengers (and pick them up afterward). Simply pull up and drop them off, similar to what you would do at an airport.

miami cruise terminal map

By the agreement, NCLH received preferential berthing rights at the new Terminal B. This means priority docking of vessels from the fleets of NCL, Oceania and RSSC-Regent. The required minimum number of ship calls (per fiscal year) is 45, which is 15 more than the previous agreement. Royal Caribbean is leasing the land for an initial 20-year period (until 2048) at base rent US$9,5 million per year (annual increase 1,5%). In addition to the base rent, Miami-Dade County receives US$5,50 per cruise passenger in excess of 1,55 million pax. The plans for the new Royal Caribbean terminal were approved by Miami's Board of County Commissioners on July 7, 2016. Under the agreement, RCCL fully financed the construction, except US$15M that PortMiami paid for infrastructure/road works.

We did a bit of souvenir shopping and even stopped by Margaritaville for a drink before catching a taxi to the white sands of 7-mile beach. There was four of us so we found a minivan taxi and got quoted $20 total for the one-way trip. Unfortunately, we got dropped off at a beach club that required us to pay another $2-3 per person to enter. There was a restaurant and a stretch of beach with lots of lounge chairs but it was very crowded and not what we were looking for. We paid our admission fee and made our way down the beach toward a more deserted stretch of sand (there were still quite a few people). After departing Montego Bay, the ship sails the Caribbean and Panama Canal for two days before making its next stop at ColΓ³n, Panama, for an optional visit to Indigenous villages or a walk around the colorful city.

Night Panama Canal CruiseDetails

Cozumel is the first stop; the island's coral reef is ideal for snorkeling and diving, while deep-sea fishing is also an option. We offer staterooms ranging from interior cabins to full suites, and we even offer connected rooms for families with more than four members traveling together. The history of Batabano dates back to the late 1980s when a group of locals aimed to create a festival that would celebrate the diverse cultural heritage of the Cayman Islands. The term "Batabano" is derived from the tracks left by the turtles as they crawl onto the beach to nest—a significant event in Caymanian culture.

Norwegian Cruise Line Ships and Itineraries 2024, 2025, 2026

Don't be surprised if you see people in shorts in the main dining rooms. Norwegian Sun is also one of the smallest and least kid-focused of the five ships the line deploys to Alaska in summer, making it a good choice for retirees wanting to visit that destination. Families with kids naturally gravitate to the two giant, activity-packed vessels Norwegian sends to Alaska each summer — Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Bliss.

LIMITED-TIME ONLINE OFFER!

The biggest two of them, on Norwegian Viva and Norwegian Prima, are nearly 1,400 feet long and sprawl over three decks. Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Epic, for instance, have the Cavern Club, a reproduction of the British club that gave rise to the Beatles. It comes complete with a cover band that plays the group's greatest hits. In some cases, the Broadway shows are cut down slightly from the original versions, and the casts aren't quite as seasoned as what you'll find on Broadway.

South Pacific Cruises

Serving a wide variety of culinary delights to please every palate, our complimentary dining options include three main dining rooms, a help-yourself buffet and a variety of casual cafΓ©s, grills and on-the-go choices. Plus, our Main Dining Rooms offer a menu that changes daily, Chef's Signature Dishes and carefully selected wine recommendations, guaranteeing a different culinary adventure with every visit. Specifically designed and priced for solo travelers, our Studios feature a full-size bed, separate bath area and access to the private Studio Lounge — no single supplement required.

Norwegian ships also typically hold several themed nights (glow party, '70s or '80s, etc.) during a typical sailing.

In addition, Norwegian Encore has a large laser tag area on its top deck (one that I can tell you from personal experience is a blast) and a massive indoor gaming and virtual reality zone called the Galaxy Pavilion. For starters, Norwegian Encore is home to some of the most thrilling waterslides at sea, as well as a kiddie splash zone that will have your little ones squealing with delight. But those are just the appetizers when it comes to family fun on the top deck of the ship. When it comes to the entertainment on our newest ships, you won’t believe your eyes or even your ears. Bask in the bright lights of Broadway with performances like Million Dollar Quartet.

Whether you’re dining inside or oceanside on The Waterfront, our specialty restaurants feature the tastes you’ll crave.

There are no formal nights, as you'll still find on Royal Caribbean ships, or dress codes. Norwegian has also thoroughly done away with the concept of big main restaurants with fixed seating. Pride of America notably operates with a mostly U.S. crew, in keeping with regulations governing cruise itineraries that only include U.S. ports. Instead of a few big main restaurants with fixed seating times, Norwegian ships offer a wide range of eateries and no assigned seating times — just make a reservation.

Norwegian doesn't have any formal nights, but there is an optional Norwegian's Night Out at least once per sailing, for which passengers are encouraged to dress up. You'll rarely see a tux or gown, but suits and cocktail dresses are not unheard of. The sailings in and out of Buenos Aires and Melbourne, all on the longer side, will offer in-depth explorations of the southern half of South America (Argentina, Uruguay and Chile) and New Zealand, respectively. For older travelers looking for a Norwegian ship that isn't filled to the gills with children, Norwegian Sun is the perfect option. A bigger caveat, perhaps, is that these solo cabins have become so popular they often sell out far in advance and at prices that aren't much better than booking a cabin for two.

The first two Breakaway-class ships entered service in 2013 and 2014 as Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway. On October 17, 2012, Meyer Werft and Norwegian reached a second agreement for the construction of two new vessels,[36] slated for delivery in October 2015 and 2017, respectively. The project was under the code name "Breakaway Plus Class", with the vessels expected to be 163,000 gross tons and hold 4,200 passengers. Savor Freestyle dining aboard Norwegian Cruise Line, including the specialty restaurants like Ocean Blue, Cagney's, Le Bistro, Moderno Churrascaria, The Haven Restaurant, the main dining rooms and several pubs, bars, grills and cafes. At 78,309 tons, Norwegian Sun is less than half the size of the biggest Norwegian ships, and it holds just 1,878 passengers at double occupancy. (Compare that to more than 4,000 for Norwegian's biggest vessels.) Expect a far more intimate experience than what you'll find on most of the ships mentioned above.

Beginning March 20, 2022, Jewel is the first NCL ship to offer roundtrip Panama Canal sailings from Panama City (Colon and Fuerte Amador). (2023) from Miami are offered 5- to 9-day roundtrips to the Eastern and Western Caribbean. The Caribbean deployment is based on 7-day roundtrips from Port Canaveral to Puerto Plata (Dominicana), Road Town (Tortola BVI), Charlotte Amalie (St Thomas USVI) and Great Stirrup Cay Bahamas.

(December 2022 and March 2023) NCL Prima from Port Canaveral offers day roundtrips to Western Caribbean. Norwegian Prima is a newbuild (2022) ship with Maiden Voyage currently scheduled for August 17, 2022. The inaugural season in Northern Europe (August 17 through September 13, 2022) includes 10-day Baltic itineraries leaving from Amsterdam and Copenhagen. In October 2025, the ship starts an Eastern Caribbean program with 5- and 7-day roundtrips from Miami. Final payments for holiday sailings (Christmas and New Year) are now due 120 days prior to departure dates, only excluding Norwegian Sky.

The policy also includes the private islands Great Stirrup Cay (Bahamas) and Harvest Caye (Belize). In 2017, NCLH had worldwide cruise market share 9,5% (passengers) and 12,8% (revenue). NCLH (shipowner) owns and manages the fleets of three subsidiary companies/sister-brands - NCL-Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania and RSSC-Regent Seven Seas.

Portland, OR to Clarkston, WA

Summer is the most popular season to visit the Pacific Northwest because of the long sunny days, warm temperatures, and blue skies. So, the best time to set out on your Columbia & Snake Rivers cruise will depend on whether you like it hot, or if you prefer to witness the most colorful landscapes. Hike dramatic landscapes, kayak through canyons, sample local wines, and raft the rapids on this adventurous Snake River and Columbia River cruise.

Due to the typical itinerary on these cruises, there are no 3-day Columbia River cruises or shorter ones available. The shortest Columbia River cruise is five days in length and the longest is 11 days. It's a 500-mile journey that stretches from the arid, golden hillsides of eastern Washington to the moisture-rich, western slopes of Oregon.

On board, delight in the ship’s delicious cuisine, socialize at the daily cocktail hour, and enjoy onboard guest speaker presentations, featuring fascinating stories and insights about the region’s history, environment, and culture. Unwind each evening with a diverse array of talented regional performers in the intimate performance lounge. Venture to Hells Canyon for a boat ride or aerial flightseeing adventure, through the deepest canyon in North America, and let your senses run as wild as the landscapes of grand mountain peaks and vast reaches of remote wilderness.

Journey through engineering marvels as you transit five colossal locks and visit the Bonneville Dam Visitor Center, where human innovation and natural splendor converge. From our convenient new dock at Kalama, Washington, enjoy the grand landscape of the Cascade Mountains scenic drive to view the remnants of nearby Mount St. Helens. A local guide enhances your understanding and shares the story of the volcano’s 1980 eruption and its impact on the environment and the lives of those in the area.

Today, this charming community offers blocks of delights from shops featuring local artisan products to some of the Pacific Northwest's best wineries and breweries. During your stay here, enjoy a guided kayaking excursion through the Gorge, visit a local winery or explore The Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum. On this adventure from Clarkston, WA, to Portland, OR, experience the breathtaking landscapes, exceptional shore excursions, and onboard experts that bring you closer in touch with the pioneers who came before us. Bear witness to Mount St. Helens, the site of the volcanic eruption that rocked the Pacific Northwest over 40 years ago. There's an abundance of history, including the Lewis and Clark expedition, along with unique local wineries and remarkable nature.

A few among them are golden currant, mock orange, green rabbitbrush, ironwood and the Oregon white oak. However, most of Columbia River cruises are seven nights with the option of a pre- or post-stay in Portland with a primary focus on the Lewis and Clark expedition. Be sure to check out our Columbia River cruise map for a visual representation of where you would go when cruising the Columbia River, especially with an itinerary that includes the Snake River. Spring months can be rainy, especially on the western part of the Columbia River, but it's that precipitation that lights the hillsides a verdant green.
