While residents of the ICF/ID may require complex medical treatment, McGuire Memorial is not a nursing home. McGuire Memorial has provided unique programs for the care of those with profound disabilities in the region since 1963.
After your primary health care provider gives you a referral, a recreation therapist will develop treatment goals for you. If you’re returning from military service, we can help you readjust to civilian life and get started with VA health care. The Virginia Department of Veterans Services veterans care centers provide affordable, long-term skilled nursing care, Alzheimer’s/memory care, and short-term rehabilitative care for Virginia’s veterans.

Your VA primary care provider will work closely with you to plan for all the care you need to stay healthy and well throughout your life, including immunizations and vaccinations. We offer women’s health services to meet your specific needs such as disease screenings, mental health treatment, recovery from military sexual trauma, maternity care and female-specific medical equipment.
We work to help you achieve your goals for independence, productivity and quality of life. At VA Richmond health care, we can help you readjust to civilian life if you’re returning from military service, on active duty, or an activated National Guard or Reserve member. We can help you overcome substance use problems from unhealthy alcohol use to life-threatening addiction. We match our services—like counseling, group therapy or medication—to your specific needs. Residents enjoy a normal rhythm of life, from eating meals in the dining room, to attending school or adult enrichment classes, to therapy, to evening recreation, or to community special events and outings.
McGuire Memorial's main campus, located in the Western Pennsylvania town of New Brighton, is home to our Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/ID). During his stay, according to Letitia James’s office, he lost 30 pounds and his injuries did not heal. Medical files revealed that he had a pre-existing Stage 3 pressure sore, which developed into Stage 4 at the facility. Family members of residents reported unclean facilities and broken critical care equipment such as wheelchairs and showers.
Individuals with intellectual disabilities, ranging in age from school children to adults, are served in the various programs – individuals who are severely and profoundly disabled, often with medically complex, multiple disabilities. This is the third suit James has filed in the past six weeks for financial fraud and abuse of residents in a New York nursing home, the second on Long Island. She filed suit against Fulton Commons Nursing Home in East Meadow last week.
The attorney general claims Landa and 11 others stole nearly $19 million from the facility between 2015 and 2021. That suit also lists allegations of abuse, mistreatment and over-the-top staff cuts. Parts of his toes had to be amputated, according to the attorney general, and when he returned from the hospital to the facility, he died.
